Neal Adams, l’un des artistes de comic books les plus influents jusqu’à aujourd’hui, est une force créatrice inestimable. Grâce à son expérience en art commercial, il a fait œuvre de pionnier dans le milieu des comic books à la fin des années 1960 et tout au long de la décennie suivante avec son style très dynamique et photoréaliste. Sous son trait de crayon, Batman a retrouvé son côté sombre, Green Arrow a pris les traits d’un Robin des bois moderne et Green Lantern a dû composer avec des problèmes bien de ce monde, entre autres le racisme, la pollution et la consommation de drogues. M. Adams a également redonné un nouveau souffle à un petit livre intitulé The X-Men (Marvel Comics), dont la publication était sur le point d’être annulée. Le public et les critiques ont très bien accueilli le style narratif dynamique de l’artiste. Un jalon important dans l’héritage des X-Men venait d’être posé.
La première incursion de Neal Adams dans le monde des comic books remonte à 1959. Après avoir vainement frappé à la porte de DC Comics pour offrir ses services à la pige, il est engagé par Archie Comics. Il est ensuite embauché comme artiste commercial par l’agence de publicité Johnstone and Cushing, spécialisée dans la publicité orientée comic books. C’est là qu’un collègue lui présente Jerry Capp, frère du créateur de Li'l Abner, Al Capp. Neal Adams est rapidement invité à illustrer la nouvelle bande dessinée de Capp, Ben Casey – série publiée de 1962 à 1966. Pendant ce temps, il continue à produire des scénarimages pour des agences publicitaires.
Neal Adams est reconnu pour son influence sur le monde des comic books. À ce titre, il a été intronisé au Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame (1998) et au Jack Kirby Hall of Fame (1999). Sa vision et son audace ont grandement contribué à l’évolution du milieu. L’entreprise de l’artiste, Continuity Studios, établie en 1971, a aidé de nombreux grands artistes à démarrer leur carrière. M. Adams œuvre toujours activement dans le secteur.

Thanks to his background as a commercial artist, Neal broke new ground in the comics industry in the late 1960s and 70s with his highly dynamic and photorealistic style. Batman regained his dark and brooding persona, Green Arrow was reborn as a modern-day Robin Hood and Green Lantern was forced to deal with real-world issues from racism to pollution to drug use. Over at Marvel Comics, Neal breathed new life into a little book called "The X-Men", which was on the verge of cancellation. His dynamic sense of storytelling was very well received by fans and critics alike, and marked a defining era in the X-Men legacy.
Neal Adams' first foray into the comic book world began at Archie Comics in 1959, after an unsuccessful attempt to find freelance work at DC Comics. Following his tenure with Archie, Neal found work as a commercial artist with the Johnstone and Cushing advertising agency, which specialized in comic-book styled advertising. It was there that a friend from the company introduced Neal to Jerry Capp, brother of Li'l Abner creator Al Capp. Adams was quickly invited to illustrate Capp's upcoming Ben Casey comic strip, which first began in 1962 until the final strip was published in 1966. During this time, Neal continued to produce storyboards for advertisement agencies.
Neal Adams has been recognized for his influence and impact on the comics world with inductions in both the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame (1998) and the Jack Kirby Hall of Fame (1999). His vision and daring has led to what we now know as the modern-day comic industry; Neal's Continuity Studios, established in 1971, helped launch the careers of many of today's top comic book talent, and Neal remains as active as ever in the business.
